Fernandez, CFM Bio:Joe G. Fernandez, CFM is a National Certified Floodplain Manager professional with more than two decades of experience helping Texas communities reduce flood risk and build resilience. Joe with the San Antonio River Authority, where he has led floodplain management initiatives, coordinated with local, state, and federal agencies, and worked extensively with communities on flood hazard mitigation and public outreach. A Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), Joe is a past President of the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA), where he helped expand professional training opportunities, advance statewide flood awareness, and strengthen collaboration among floodplain managers across Texas. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his leadership in flood risk education, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Joe is passionate about helping communities understand their flood risks and preparing for the increasing challenges posed by extreme weather. His practical, on-the-ground experience makes him a sought-after speaker on floodplain management, flood mitigation, and protecting Texas communities. Joe is a past President of the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA), where he helped expand professional training opportunities, advance statewide flood awareness, and strengthen collaboration among floodplain managers across Texas. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his leadership in flood risk education, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Known for his collaborative leadership style and commitment to public service, Joe is passionate about building partnerships that support sustainable watershed management and informed decision-making. He is dedicated to helping communities, organizations, and public agencies navigate complex floodplain challenges while promoting long-term resilience and responsible resource management. Synopsis:The San Antonio River Authority provides technical expertise, mapping support, flood studies, and community assistance to reduce flood risk across the region.   As a Certified Floodplain Manager and Project Management Associate for SARA, Joe will provide an overview of how effective flood risk management relies on accurate mapping, sound regulations, informed decision-making, and cooperation among FEMA, local governments, property owners, and regional partners.  By understanding flood risks and utilizing available resources, communities can become more resilient to future flooding events.A registration form for this lecture will be made available after our July 22nd lecture concludes.
