Protecting the environment and the ecosystems that depend on fresh water is essential. That’s why I urge you to support this bill that would restore Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) the authority contest water rights permits and pollution discharge permits issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) if such permits might adversely affect state parks and wildlife management areas or the fish and wildlife managed by the agency. It has been very frustrating that TPWD was not able to join GEAA to fight the waste water permit that threatened to pollute the spring-fed Honey Creek and the Honey Creek State Natural Area.
