GEAA celebrates National Groundwater Awareness Week with release of an investigation on aquifer protection basins, commonly called BMPs. BMP stands for “Best Management Practice”. These BMPs are permanent structures required by State law to mitigate pollution from high density development on the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone. BMPs come in many shapes and sizes, and are site specific in design. Most commonly in San Antonio, a BMP is a concrete lined ditch filled with sand, which is meant to filter out some pollutants from the first flush of rain water. January Conference: Pumping Limits for Texas Aquifers: Desired Future Conditions Process

The Texas A&M Graduate Water Program, Texas Agrilife Extension, and the Texas Water Development Board have planned a conference addressing pumping limits for Texas’ aquifers and the desired future condition process. The upcoming conference is scheduled for January 20-21, 2010, and will be held at the Thompson Conference Center on the UT Austin campus. The slate of speakers represents some of the most important players in groundwater management in Texas and the various presentations are sure to address many of the most challenging issues currently facing groundwater managers in Texas. At the request of Guajolote Ranch owners,  Richard H. “Rick” LePere, Sidney E. “Gene” Edwards Jr. and Marcie Edwards, the City is scheduled to discuss an application for a Municipal Utility District (MUD) at their B Session meeting on Wednesday, December 17th.  City Council will be voting to approve this request sometime in January, 2026.
